Episode 71: Drugchecking @ home - testing substances at home
Host: Andrea Piest
with: Dr. Felix Blei (Managing Director and Founder Miraculix | Head of the Drugchecking Project Alive)
FOLLOW-UP :
Not all people have the opportunity to use drug checking services in Berlin, Switzerland and Austria - an alternative is offered by paid test kits. What the tests can do, where the limits are and why GHB bracelets promise more than they can deliver, you will learn in this episode from Felix Blei from Miraculix Lab, Andrea and Jessica.
Dr. Felix Blei is a researcher and scientist from Jena. After completing his doctorate, he developed a simple test method with which the active ingredient psilocybin can be quantitatively detected for the first time. He subsequently developed further quantitative test systems for many other active substances (hallucinogens, various amphetamines and phenylethylamines). With the help of his own company - and under the miraculix brand - the rapid tests are currently being developed and distributed. Felix and his team are the first in Germany to carry out a state-funded analytical intervention by offering an integrated substance analysis, especially mobile at festivals or parties. The project is a cooperation between the addiction support service in Thuringia and miraculix.

3-MMC vs. 4-MMC - confusion around mephedrone modifications: What's the difference - and is it what it says?
3-MMC has conquered the dancefloor and sexpositive settings in a short time. Unlike other research chemicals, it is not only offered as a "replacement" for 4-MMC (mephedrone), but also as a parallel choice. It is described in the media as a zombie drug and caused an uproar at the beginning of the pandemic, not only in Switzerland and the Netherlands. What is there to the media hype? How does 3-MMC differ from 4-MMC? And why is it often not what it says? Find out in this new episode of Nachtschatten by Christopher Clay (sidekicks.berlin, BISS e.V.), Andrea and Jessica.
Christopher Clay is responsible for communications, PR & social media for Berlin's queer sexual health center sidekicks (ex man*Check).
Episode 73: Meeting of the generations and intergenerational celebrations
Host: Andrea Piest
with: Steffi, Alex, Regina & Rob
This episode is very special - because Jessica was a guest at a "Soirée des Voyageurs" by Sonar Berlin and got some really good stuff together with Andrea:
Times change - and so does the way people celebrate. Especially at open airs, in public spaces and at festivals, young and old, parents and children cavort together. What initially sounds like a large collective playground nevertheless raises numerous questions, such as the rather open use of substances by some guests. Is a children's space enough to be an inclusive festival for all ages? Surely that also works for other festivities?
Interview partners:
Steffi works at the Escape youth and family support service - with a focus on parents and/or young people who use drugs. Before that, she worked as a counselor in the emergency drug service, advising substance-using minors. In her day-to-day work, she has to assess, for example, whether people are able to put the child's most important needs first.
Alex has been organizing unregistered raves since he was very young, supports a small open air crew here in Berlin and now has a little 4 year old son who also joins in from time to time.
Regina organized a two-day queer youth culture festival for For A Change e.V. Passau with other people for the first time in 2023. One particular aspect was to create the safest possible space for young people in the city of Passau. In this episode, she explains exactly what that means.
Rob Bennett studied psychology and anthropology. He organizes and leads trance and yoga workshops at congresses and clubs. The lifelong musician plays in clubs and at festivals and offers techno yoga.

In the Amazon, frog medicine is used as an all-purpose weapon against malaria, yellow fever and snake bites. There is no intoxication, the application is even really unpleasant. Find out what Kambô can do and who should stay away from it in this new episode by Jessica, Andrea and Lukas Kuni.
Lukas has been guiding people as a certified IAKP (International Association of Kambo Practitioners) Kambô practitioner since 2017.
A disclaimer at this point: Participation in a Kambo ceremony should only take place under the guidance of experienced and qualified practitioners.

Almost two years after the first needle spiking incidents, the topic of spiking is still present in nightlife. According to a recent study by Dr. Antonia Bendau, who is a guest in our new episode, there is at least one person in every circle of friends who is suspected of being affected. The fear of being administered substances unknowingly is great - this was also made clear in the fentanyl panic.
In this episode, Antonia Bendau (Charité Berlin) presents the results of her study: What do we know about substances, those affected and perpetrators? And what can we do preventively?
Episode 79: LSD derivatives & prodrugs - does it all work like the mothership?
Host: Andrea Piest, Jessica Schmidt
with: Dr. Fabian Steinmetz (Toxicologist)
There are numerous myths circulating about LSD derivatives - the colors are different, as are the sounds - what is the truth of these stories and what should be considered when consuming them? What is the legal framework, what is forbidden and what is allowed? Andrea and Jessica talk about this in this new episode of Nachschatten with toxicologist Dr. Fabian Steinmetz.
Legal status update: On 14.06.24, the Federal Council will vote on further amendments to the NpSG (New Psychoactive Substances Act). It is expected that 1P-LSD, 1cP-LSD, 1V-LSD, 1T-LSD, 1D-LSD, ALD-52 and other LSD prodrugs as well as AL-LAD and its prodrugs will be illegalized. You only understand the station? Then listen to the episode!
Dr. Fabian Pitter Steinmetz is a Eurotox-certified toxicologist and consultant at Delphic HSE. He completed his PhD in computational toxicology at Liverpool John Moores University in 2016. His scientific interests include structure-activity relationships, NPS and harm reduction approaches. As a board member of ENCOD, he is committed to the legalization of individual and community cultivation of psychoactive plants/fungi. He is also a member of the Schildower Kreis drug policy expert network.
There's always time in between to listen to something exciting. And not just when we can't meet up with friends or party in clubs or at festivals due to pandemic-related imponderables, for example. Not only - but also for this reason, we have decided to take a few little audio excursions into our themed worlds - where the Nachtschatten podcast is not exclusively - but of course always - about substances and their responsible use within club, music and pop culture. Of course, this also applies to everyday life at home. So, if you've just got half an hour...
