White crystalline powder (cocaine hydrochloride)
As a hydrochloride (salt) it is usually sniffed, but can also be injected or (as a crack or freebase) smoked. Cocaine acts as a positive reinforcer. It inhibits the reuptake of dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline, resulting in a higher concentration of these neurotransmitters in the brain. Feelings of hunger, tiredness and capacity for pain are suppressed.
⫸ Cocaine, crack and freebase are chemically processed cocaine products which can be smoked.
⫸ EFFECTS
after approx.2-3 minutes (nasal)
⫸ DURATION
usually 30-90 minutes (significantly shorter for continuous use).
⫸ DETECTABLE
up to 3 days (blood), up to 6 days (urine).
⫸ SIDE EFFECTS
Increase in pulse, blood pressure and body temperature. Cardiac arrhythmia, restlessness, chest pain, insomnia, increased aggressiveness, disorientation, sensory illusions possible.
⫸ SPECIAL RISKS IN
Heart defects, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, epilepsy, hyperthyroidism, depression, anxiety/panic, schizophrenia, diabetes, asthma, liver/kidney disease.
⫸ POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS
Nosebleeds, convulsions, anxiety, paranoia. Severe overdose can lead to heart attack/brain stroke or organ failure.
⫸ AFTEReffects and Consequences
Susceptibility to infection, depressive moods, sexual dysfunction, risk of psychological dependence. Cardiac and other organ damage possible. At Continuous use Damage to the nasal septum. Cocaine powder is often laced with other psychoactive/stimulant substances (e.g., caffeine, phenacetin) and/or local anesthetics (e.g., lidocaine, tetracaine). A narcotic effect therefore does not mean that the cocaine is particularly pure! In addition, levamisole is often added, which has an amphetamine-like effect. These additives represent a severe additional stress for the body, especially with continuous use.
Inform yourself as much as possible about your supply & use drug checking if available. The potency of cocaine can have huge variations. Work up slowly to the effective dose. Wait at least 30 mins before topping up your dose! Dosage details should be considered with particular caution due to the fluctuating purity and tolerance development. A medium dose of about 50 mg of high-quality cocaine can be considered as a medium dose. Set yourself a limit for every session. Take smaller lines each time – acute OVERDOSES happen primarily from injecting, but can also happen from repeatedly taking lines. Crush up the cocaine as small as possible and use a clean and disinfected surface and your own snorting pipe or one use paper (no bank notes!).
Make sure you get enough water and minerals. If you do drink alcohol, keep it to a minimum. Get enough sleep and take it easy, wait a while before your next session.
Avoid mixing with alcohol with alcohol and other uppers, or substances that increase blood pressure! Cocaine covers up the effects of other drugs (e.g. alcohol, MDMA) and increases the toxicity - the danger of poisoning is increased.
